چکیده

A comprehensive description of an alignment procedure for double-mirror (Franks) cameras is presented.* It is intended to serve as a practical laboratory guide. The method is summarized in a flow chart and illustrated by beam photographs and intensity profiles. Principals underlying the method are explained. Detailed procedures are given for the initial alignment of the mirrors, optimizing the focus and shape of the beam, adjusting the reflection and takeoff angles, defining and guarding the beam, and monitoring the process with a fluorescent screen, photographs and an X-ray counter. In the double-mirror sysstem, which was originally constructed by Kirkpatrick & Baez (1948) and developed by Franks (1955), X-rays emitted from a localized source can be focused by total reflection from two orthogonal curved mirrors to form small intense beams with narrow angular divergence. Double-mirror cameras are now commonly used for diffraction studies requiring high order-to-order resolution.

An Analytical Model for Rare Earth Doped Fiber Lasers Consisting of High Reflectivity Mirrors

The present article is concerned with an analytical solution for some parts of rare earth doped fiber laser equations. The presented model is valid for both four and three-level fiber lasers consisting high reflectivity mirrors. A typical method to obtain initial value in the numerical solutions of fiber laser equations is shooting method, which is based on an iteration process. Whereas this st...

Fabrication of X-ray Microscope Mirrors

We showed the design of a Wolter type I mirror which was optimized to have a maximum effective solid angle used in X-ray microscopes, and fabricated the mirror using the replication method. Several mirrors were successfully fabricated using only one master mandrel by our replication method without destroying the master mandrel. The replicated Au focusing and imaging mirrors showed surface rough...

Analytical computation of the off-axis effective area of grazing incidence X-ray mirrors

Aims. Focusing mirrors for X-ray telescopes in grazing incidence, introduced in the 70s, are characterized in terms of their performance by their imaging quality and effective area, which in turn determines their sensitivity. Even though the on-axis effective area is assumed in general to characterize the collecting power of an X-ray optic, the telescope capability of imaging extended X-ray sou...

Optimization of graded multilayer designs for astronomical X-ray telescopes.

We developed a systematic method for optimizing the design of depth-graded multilayers for astronomical hard-x-ray and soft-gamma-ray telescopes based on the instrument's bandpass and the field of view. We apply these methods to the design of the conical-approximation Wolter I optics employed by the balloon-borne High Energy Focusing Telescope, using W/Si as the multilayer materials. In additio...

Second-harmonic generation in doubly resonant microcavities with periodic dielectric mirrors.

Strong enhancement of second-harmonic generation (SHG) is expected in one-dimensional microcavities when double resonance for the pump and the harmonic fields, as well as phase matching, are achieved. The realization of a doubly resonant microcavity with dielectric mirrors made of nonbirefringent materials is difficult because of the refractive index dispersion of the constituent media. Here we...
